The Radiants will warm up or cool down the colours of the painters in the blends without darkening them. Colors may also be adjusted by radiants into more complex mixes.
Gamblin Radiant Colors consist of a total of eight vivid tints – pure colour and white mixtures in Munsell System at Value 7. On this page we illustrate how Radiant Colors come to be, and how painters use Radiant Colors.
From Robert Gamblin’s friendship with the painter Wolf Kahn, Gamblin Radiant Colors were made. The Wolf landscapes are expressed in pure colour, with a vivid palette and bold shaped forms expressing the natural world. Wolf works with light pastels almost as fluently as he does with oil paints.
Because pastels are a “dry” medium, pure pigment sticks (ULB) plus several tints of pigments at various settings should be added to the pigment. Wolf followed his palette of oil paints – which incorporated pure tube colours with lighter tints. In the creation of 8 extreme colours known as Radiants, Robert collaborated with Wolf.
