Williamsburg oil paint colors
Williamsburg handmade oils are handmade with high-quality pigments from around the world by qualified American artisans. Any of the 140 or more colours: some mildly dusty, some incredibly matte, has a distinctive clarity and texture. Williamsburg Handmade Oils is so beautiful and valued by the artists who chose it.
Colors not greater than five gallons are produced in small batches to maintain the maximum degree of control. Pigments are thoroughly ground to improve each individual’s beauty and brightness, and then in combination with pure, premium, alkaline, pH-balanced oil.
Each ingredient is handmade and each batch is quality-checked.
Most Williamsburg oils, except Alizarin Crimson and Van Dyke Brown with extremely low light strength, are known to have outstanding light fastness (LF I) (LFIII).
Colours — Williamsburg produces four Special Edition iron oxide shades, which use the same pigments as Williamsburg’s basic colours, but they are milled to make them suitable in glazings with a better quality. Transparent Yellow Iron Oxide is a Stil De Grain dependent on dark brown amber and light ocher when glassified. It is a dark-yellow-brown mast.
Transparent Orange Iron Oxide is made of Italian Pink, producing a thick, red orange masstone that gives rise to rich glazes of orange rot. Transparent Brown Iron Oxide originates from the Netherlands Brown and results in transparent brown glazes that recall coffee or tanned leather. Transparent Red Oxide is a better Brown Pink version, resulting in red tones that remind glazing of painted cherry wood.
